Paterson, who has scored 14 goals for the Iron this term, will have a bilateral hernia repair on Tuesday and should be ready for pre-season training in July.
He will be available for Saturday's trip to Watford, but will miss the visit of Colchester next weekend.
Although a British tabloid claimed during the week that Norwich were interested in buying Paterson for £900,000, the Iron manager Nigel Adkins has insisted he has received no bib.
