The 29-year-old ex-Middlesbrough and Hearts midfielder has trained with United over the last couple of weeks and played in the Iron's reserve game with Hull City.

Manager Brian Laws has confirmed that there is no deal on the table, but he is allowing Stamp to continue his training with United.

He told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "We have agreed to give him some games in the reserves so he can get his match fitness up. There is no doubting he has quality, but he needs to lose some weight."

Stamp added: "Obviously I want to play at as high a level as I can, but I'm not ruling anything out - I'm just going to see how it goes."
