Nate was shown the red card in the 92nd minute of Saturday's match after questioning the referee's decisions to award a penalty to Bristol Rovers - with himself judged to be the guilty player.

Rovers converted the spot kick, just, and Stanton's continued arguement with the referee saw him sent from the pitch for using foul and abusive language.

"I thought the penalty was very harsh and that is why I showed my disappointment to the referee," the player said in a statement on SUFC's official website.

"I just want to say sorry to the fans, players and coaches. It was poor discipline from me and I should have known better.

"I will definately learn from it, it was my first red card for the first team and hopefully it is the last."

The young full back is likely to keep his place in the team for Saturday's local derby at Lincoln City, but will face a fine as a result.
