Taylor was watching from the terraces the last time United claimed a title - the Third Division (North) in 1958.
And now Taylor, a vice-president at the Iron, was present to see United add a memorable bit of silverware to their collection.
"For a club this size to be heading towards the Championship is a fantastic achievement," he beamed.
"It is something the town can be proud of, and this set of players have written their names firmly into the history books of this club."
