Three ask for more time on contract offers

Dawson has been widely tipped to make a switch to the third division, and whilst Iron manager Brian Laws had said that if players did not sign the contracts today the offers would be taken away it would be stupidity in the extreme if the offer does not remain on the table until he joins a new club.

Whilst there is always the possibility of him staying on at Glanford Park, offering the player a contract ensures that United will be entitled to compensation should he decide to move up the leagues.

Quails has also asked for more time to think over the offer, this season he has not figured in the first team much despite showing good goalscoring form when given the chance.

“Brian Quailey wants more time to think it over but I have indicated to him that while he is thinking about it I am looking for another player to replace him. If I find someone before he signs then there will be no going back," said Lawsy today.

“I want him to commit himself to the club like everybody else has. If he is unlucky then it means I have found another player and I won't be resigning Brian Quailey if I found one.

Local youngster Matthew Sparrow is the third player to ask for more time, but in his case there is no rush as it is only an extension to the deal.

He is contracted to the club until the end of next season anyway, so will be wearing the club's colours next season regardless of his eventual contract decision.
