Brian Quailey is still undecided about his contract offer, and although United have accepted his request for more time there is the danger that the club will take away the offer if he delays for too long.

“I am still waiting on an answer from Brian Quailey but I am speaking to a number of strikers. If one of them gives me answer then Brian could find himself unemployed," confirmed Brian Laws today

“I am looking for somebody who can get us a goal and I've spoken to both a young striker who would be a bit of a gamble and one that is 28 with a decent goal scoring record."

Another forward who Laws has spoken to about a move to GP is current Wales international manager Mark Hughes.

The former Manchester United forward has been released by Premiership Blackburn Rovers, and is attending a management training course alongside Lawsy.

“We had a general chat to see whether he would come to Scunthorpe United because I think he would be fantastic for the club.

“He didn't say no which is bonus and I will see him again at another management course next week and hopefully manipulate him into saying yes.

“He is a striker that would be good for the club even at 38.”

Meanwhile Laws has asked Norwich City to conclude their talks with Andrew Dawson by the end of the week.

The Canaries are favourites to land the highly rated left-back, but until a decision is made either way United cannot budget accurately for next season.
