The United manager was unhappy with how tired his players looked after the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Northern area quarter final with Rochdale on Tuesday and decided to change the training routine ahead of the trip to the Bank's Stadium

Adkins took his side to a nearby forest and led his troops on a treasure hunt collecting cups.

"The lads had to collect some items as we walked around the beautiful scenery up there", Adkins told the Official website

"We had a little talk about the things that they collected and put some cups out for them to find. It was an enjoyable morning - it was good and got the lads talking to each other out in the fresh air."

In a week full of speculation, the gaffer was keen to get his side focused on the challenge ahead and has been boosted by the news Gary Hooper has been passed fit to play some part in the tie. He is likely to be pushing for a starting place.

Adkins added: "He is bang on again and raring to go."
