Wharton demands promotion

Wharton today admitted to fans on the club's official messageboard that had the Iron been relegated last season, it "would have been nothing less than an absolute disaster.

"Success this season is promotion, preferably automatic but via the play-offs would still be worthy of a celebration" Wharton declared.

It was Wharton who controversially reinstated Laws as manager last April after Ex-Chairman Chris Holland had sacked the Iron boss just nineteen days earlier.

However, despite last season's vote of confidence, many Iron fans see Wharton - famously quoted as saying "I will not accept failure" - making his expectations public as a warning to Scunthorpe manager Brian Laws.
