However, Ward warned in the News & Star: "He knows our limitations and we can't go smashing the bank for one player.
"Arsene Wenger has said he won't do that and nor will Aston Villa and that's right. We will have to come to some compromise with Keiren.
"We have to discuss terms and see what we can offer. We think he is a very good goalkeeper and someone of his quality will catch the eye."
