Championship braced for a tight finish

Scunthorpe and Colchester have already had relegation confirmed, and Wednesday are among a host of teams battling for their safety.

They could go a long way to securing survival by beaitng Plymouth on Monday night, but Laws is expecting plenty of twists before the end of the season.

The Owls are in the dreaded drop zone ahead of Monday's game at Hillsbrough, but victory would move them ahead of Leicester, Coventry, Southampton and Blackpool.

Laws said: "The one thing you get in this league is inconsistency and you can't predict your games. You have no idea and it just goes to show you the fear that is going through the league.

"The ones at the top are showing nerves, Watford in particular and Bristol City, nobody wants to win it and therefore there's going to be some surprise results on paper.

"I'd rather be playing the ones at the top because they look more nervous than anybody else.

"The ones at the bottom certainly aren't giving up anything because nobody wants to fall away.

"We're on 48 points and that was more than enough last season to stay in the division, this year somebody is going to go down with 50 points and it's going to be a tough call."

It is also tight at the top - and Bristol City boss Gary Johnson expects the race for automatic promotion to the Premier League to go right to the wire.

The Robins slipped out of the top two after being held to a goalless draw by Wolves on Saturday.

Johnson said: "People might be disappointed we didn't get a win, but we've got three games to go and any team that gets promoted has to do it right to the end.

"We've got to keep our chins up and believe we have a great opportunity. We'll try and get that play-off position first and then kick on from there. It was always going to go down the last games."
