The Us parted company with Williams last week following a disappointing start to life back in League One, with Kit Symons handed control of the team in a caretaker basis.

The chairman Robbie Cowling said applications from prospective new managers have been flooding in.

"The applications have been coming in thick and fast over the past couple of weeks and I will be sitting down and taking a good look at them over the weekend," he said.

"That was always the intention after Geraint left and I think two weeks is enough time for any potential candidate to put his application in."
