Bradley Wright-Phillips gave Southampton the lead in the 52nd minute, but the U's were level six minutes later when Mark Yeates crossed low into the area from the right and the ball was diverted past goalkeeper Kelvin Davis by the outstretched leg of defender Rudi Skacel.

"I'm a little disappointed as we had the best three chances in the game which we didn't take," said Williams.

"Once we settled down we could have come away with all three points.

"At half-time I told my players to show a bit of self-belief and we looked much more comfortable in the second period."
