FA Cup round up

Last updated : 06 January 2008 By Matt Blanchard
The FA Cup sprinkled its magic on four Football League sides, who managed to knock out Premiership opposition.

Bolton and Blackburn were sent crashing out by Championship opposition Sheffield United and Coventry respectively; whilst League One sides Oldham and Huddersfield saw off Everton and Birmingham to progress to Round four.

Coventry romped to a 4-1 victory at Ewood park, with a brilliant solo goal for Iron target Dele Adebola. Michael Mifsud brought more misery to Premiership opposition with another brace following his Carling Cup show at Manchester United earlier this season.

Gary McDonald's 25 yard strike was enough to put Oldham into the hat for Round 4, scraping a delightful 1-0 win against a strong Everton side at Goodsion Park.

Chris Brandon sealed a 2-1 home win for Huddersfield against Premiership side Birmingham City, he slotted home the winner after O'Connor had cancelled out an early Luke Beckett goal for the hosts.

A poor Bolton performance saw them pay the price as Sheffield United snatched a 1-0 win at the Reebok, David Carney scored the only goal of the game.

Non League Chasetown bowed out after a 3-1 defeat against Championship side Cardiff, despite taking a 17th minute lead.

Havant and Waterlooville are in the hat for Round 4 claiming a point at the Liberty Stadium; defying the the odds in a fiery affair. Both sides were reduced to 10 men as Brett Poate's ridiculous 2 footed lunge sparked a mass brawl, and Tate saw red for the Swans in the handbags that followed.

Chelsea overcame fellow millionaires QPR 1-0 with a Lee Camp own goal seperating the two sides, whilst Tottenham drew 2-2 with Reading at White Heart Lane. Some shocking goalkeeping from Paul Robinson, and some even worse misses from their millions of pounds worth of striking talent means they meet again on Tuesday week.

Manchester United overcame Aston Villa 2-0 at Villa Park, whilst Premiership side Middelsborough grabbed a 2-1 win at Ashton Gate against Bristol City.

Wigan and Portsmouth progressed with wins at Sunderland and Ipswich respecitively, whilst Man City and West Ham will play again after they drew 0-0 at the Boleyn Ground.
