Stockport paid £70,000 to sign Jackman from Villa in 2003 and last season he made 35 appearances and scored two goals for the club.
Jackman's performances at left-back had attracted the interest of Bournemouth and Yeovil, who he nearly joined on transfer deadline day, but the 22-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the Gills.
