Grayson saw his new side draw 1-1 with League One leaders Leicester City at Elland Road on Boxing Day before revealing his plans for the new year.
Robert Snodgrass' injury-time equaliser earned a point for the inconsistent West Yorkshire club.
"Some players were unfortunate not to be in the starting line-up but I had to pick players that I knew a bit about," said Grayson.
"But it's a start and everybody's got a chance to be in the team. There's a lot of work to be done.
"We could have played a lot better at times, but the big thing is that we showed a lot of desire, resolve and spirit to carry on to the end and if the game had carried on another five minutes we might have gone and won it."
