The 30-year-old was forced to miss the defeat at Peterborough United, after hurting the digit during the warm-up at London Road, with Casper Ankergren taking over in goal.
However, an X-ray has allayed fears he will be sidelined for several weeks.
The United boss Gary McAllister said: "Dave's had an X-ray and it isn't as bad as we first thought. He's able to train with a splint on."
