Leicester seal title as Bulls go down

Two goals from Matty Fryatt ensured Leicester City returned to the Championship at the first attempt as champions.

Fryatt bagged the first from the penalty spot and then headed home a second to spark celebrations from the 2,141 travelling fans.

Craig Mackail-Smith scored his 25th goal of the season to give Peterborough United a 1-0 win over Stockport County and eave Poshwithin touching distance of the Championship.

Darren Ferguson's side are four points clear of third-placed MK Dons, who beat Scunthorpe 1-0 at Glanford Park, with two games to go.

Millwall and Leeds United are now guaranteed a play-off spot. Jermaine Beckford returned from injury to set Leeds on their way to a 10th home win on the bounce with his 32nd goal of the season as they beat Tranmere Rovers 3-1.

The Lions were surprisingly beaten 4-2 at Bristol Rovers, but the London side are sure of their place in the end-of-season promotion lottery.

Tranmere, Scunthorpe or Southend will claim the final play-off spot, with all three losing on Saturday.

Hereford United were relegated to League Two after a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Colchester United.

The other three teams in the bottom four claimed impressive wins to boost their survival hopes.

Cheltenham Town live to fight another day after Paul Connor struck with a late goal to seal a 2-1 win at Crewe Alexandra.

Lloyd Owusu's goals are threatening to drag Brighton clear of relegation, and he starred in their 3-1 home win over Oldham Athletic.

Championship:

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake fired Wolves back into the Premier League as his 25th goal of the season ended their five-year absence from the top-flight thanks to a 1-0 home win over Queens Park Rangers. The result will earn Scunthorpe a £250,000 payment as part of the transfer of Andy Keogh to Molineux in January 2007.

Charlton Athletic were relegated for the second time in three seasons as they dropped down to League One following a 2-2 draw against Blackpool at The Valley.

The financial meltdown of their dramatic decline two years after being a Premier League club has led to 30 members of staff being under threat of redundancy and put the future of manager Phil Parkinson in doubt as his team have managed just three wins in the 25 games he has been in charge.
