The Silkmen chief will notch up the remarkable achievement tonight in the less-than-inspiring surroundings of an LDV Vans Trophy 2nd round match against Mansfield Town.

But nonetheless, he will write his name in footballing history and join a short list - which sees him in such esteemed company as Sir ALex Ferguson, Joe Royle and Dario Gradi.

Horton began his managerial career at Hull City, and had spells at Oxford, Manchester City, Huddersfield, Brighton and Port Vale before saving the Silkmen from relegation out of the Football League when he arrived with just seven games remaining of last season.

He said: "There aren't many who have done it and it is certainly a nice achievement for me.

"I played more than 700 games, I'm now in my 21st year as a manager, and I can honestly say I've enjoyed every minute of it.

"There's been a few sackings here and there but that is something you have to deal with. A manager's life-span is a short one so this really is a significant milestone for me to reach."

With the Chesire club trailing League Two leaders Scunthorpe by just four points, Horton is hoping there is time for some more silverware yet in his career.

He added: "I just want to go on. I'm not old and decrepit just yet, and as long as I'm still enjoying it I see no reason to stop.

"It's the next best thing after playing, and it's nice just to still be involved."
