The former Austria Under-21 international had been on trial at the club and featured in the pre-season friendlies against Reading and Sheffield Wednesday, finding the net against the latter.
Earlier in his career Sturm played for Tirol Innsbruck, Rapid Vienna and Wacker Tirol.
