Part of the deal that sawBlackstock move to St Mary's was a promise on first refusal if the Saints were to let the youngster out on loan.

But Blackstock joined Argyle last month on loan, and the U's claim they weren't offered him.

Mick Brown, Oxford's club secretary was livid at Southampton's claim that the teenage striker would rather play in the Championship than League Two.

He said: "That's all very well, but it's the principal of it that matters to us. It's nice to know for the future if writing something like this into a contract is worthless.

"What's the point of a clause like that if it's not adhered to? The agreement was entered into in good faith."
