Queens Park Rangers continued their flying start to the season with victory at Leicester City on Saturday, opening up a five-point gap at the top of the Championship table.

Two goals from Jamie Mackie secured the victory at the Walkers Stadium, as the R's dug out one of their more battling victories of the season.

Ipswich Town, who visit Glanford Park next Saturday, claimed second place in the table with a 2-0 victory over Cardiff City - who drop to third - at Portman Road.

Jason Scotland scored after they had taken the lead through an own goal from Adam Matthews.

Norwich City are fourth after another 1-0 win away from home. Grant Holt was again the scorer, as he was at Glanford Park, in this victory at Preston - who are in the relegation zone.

Watford find themselves surprisingly in the play-off places after the most impressive result of the day - going to Millwall and recording a 6-1 victory.

Middlesbrough's 3-1 win over Reading at the Riverside Stadium suggested they are finally putting their early season problems behind them, while Coventry City were 2-1 winners at Bristol City.

Barnsley drew 1-1 with Derby County at Oakwell, while Hull City and Nottingham Forest played out a goalless draw at the KC Stadium. Doncaster Rovers and Leeds United had drawn 0-0 on Friday night.
