The 23-year-old was released by the Championship side at the end of last season and has penned a two-year deal at Roots Hall.
The former Charlton trainee moves to Southend on a free transfer after making 19 appearances for the Addicks.
He also spent loan spells at Bristol City and Brentford during his time at The Valley.
