Elliot Ward put Coventry ahead from the penalty spot with 31 minutes gone after Chris Riggot felled Michael Doyle in the area.

But Ricardo Fuller levelled for the visitors midway through the second half, again from the spot, after he was brought down in the box by Scott Dann.

And with just ten minutes remaining, Liam Lawrence neatly curled home with his left foot to send the Potters back to the top of the table.

Elsewhere, fellow promotion contenders West Brom faced Watford in the day's evening kick-off.

Leigh Bromby put Watford ahead after six minutes, but that goal was cancelled out shortly after the break when Ishmael Miller flicked Zoltan Gera's free-kick past the Hornets' keeper Richard Lee.

Roman Bednar had the ball in the next with 15 minutes remaining, but the goal was controversially ruled out for offside.

Meanwhile, Bristol City and Wolverhampton Wanderers played out a 0-0 draw at Ashton Gate whilst Hull City were also held by mid-table QPR.

Dexter Blackstock's early effort was adjudged to have crossed the line by the referee and his officials to give the away side a shock lead.

City left it late to equalise, defender Michael Turner came up from the back to net in the last minute of the game to salvage a point for the Tigers.

At the bottom of the table, relegated Colchester held struggling Leicester to a 1-1 draw at the Walker's Stadium.

Kevin Lisbie's header put Colchester in front with 15 minutes remaining, but the Foxes dug deep and Iain Hume struck with 89 minutes gone to earn Leicester a much-needed point.

Finally in the Championship this weekend, there were wins for Cardiff, Barnsley and Sheffield United over Blackpool, Preston and Burnley respectively.

Meanwhile Charlton were held to a 1-1 draw against Southampton at The Valley.

Swansea City won promotion from League One thanks to a 2-1 win at Gillingham.
