Dario qualifies for an Italian passport, so there are unlikely to be any complications - as there was when a move to Portsmouth, where Merson was a player at the time, fell through two years ago.
Merson said: "He is keen to come to England. He paid his own air fare and can't wait to get cracking.
"If we see the same player we did at Portsmouth then we might have a real talent on our hands."
