Watford aim to bounce back

A 1-1 draw with Manchester City on Saturday condemned to Hornets to relegation to the second tier of English football after just one season in the top flight.

But despite seeing star striker Ashley Young move to Aston Villa in a big money move back in January, Boothroyd insists no big names will be leaving Vicarage Road this summer.

"We will look to keep the nucleus of the squad together, no-one will raid us, and no-one will go," he insisted.

"Next year we will be expected to come straight back up, and that is when the pressure arrives. But you have to aim for the stars, and that is what I am about."

And after only two seasons as a manager, Boothroyd reckons he has gained plenty from his one term as a Premiership boss.

"I have learned loads. I have had 'bouncebackability' - to quote Iain Dowie - and effort from my players but it is not enough in this league," he said.

"Nobody has died. It is not a time to be sad and say 'if only'.  It is a time to reflect, and make sure we build on all the good things from this season.

"The club is in a better place, and we are better for the experience."
