The midfielder, 24, made six appearances for the Cumbrians during his time at Brunton Park, three from the substitute's bench.
The caretaker Carlisle manager Greg Abbott told the club's official website: "John came in to the club at a time when we badly needed midfield cover, and he did a great job for us.
"We now have players returning, but his attitude has been first class even when we've either left him out or used him from the bench.
"He's a really positive character who's come here and worked hard, and he returns to Hull now that his loan spell has come to an end with our very best wishes."
