Who needs Mourinho? They've got... Laws.

The ditty was a regular at Glanford Park after Nigel Adkins was elevated into the managerial hotseat from his position as physio, after Laws quit the club to take charge at Sheffield Wednesday.

Laws' exit from North Lincolnshire was followed by a surge to the League One title, prompting the chant about the then Chelsea-manager Jose Mourinho. But maybe, at least to Laws' mind, we had already been treated to someone the equal of the Portuguese coach.

United have not fared so good this season, but then Laws hasn't had a great time at Hillsborough. They only avoided relegation from the Championship thanks to a 4-1 win over Norwich on Sunday.

And after the 4-1 victory, Laws was quick to highlight the role he played in keeping the side up.

"I'm not patting myself on the back, but if Mourinho was here I don't think he could have done any better," he said.

"That's the truth. We've had everything thrown at us and yet everybody has stayed calm and very focused. We could have thrown the towel in weeks ago but we didn't.

"That shows the camp is united and certainly the glue to it all is certainly the support we have had.

"The fans have been magnificent and would have been forgiven for turning on us all, the players, manager, because the results haven't matched their drive."

Laws' future as Owls manager remains unclear, with ongoing speculation over a possible takeover at the Yorkshire club.
