The Somerset side told employees there may be "changes to their working hours or conditions", but insist they are not in trouble.

Rumours quickly spread that the Glovers would have to sell players, or even go into administration, but the club said these were no more than "ill-informed rumours".

"The club is financially secure and is under no pressure in terms of cash resources," read a statement.

"However, it is conducting its business in accordance with responsible budgetary controls and is carrying out a review of its operations in view of the current economic climate.

"This does not necessarily mean changes are inevitable. Decisions will be made when the review has been concluded.

"Staff have been formally advised of the possibility of change to comply with accepted employment procedures."
