The 26-year-old played in the 1999 play-off final success for United, and rates the day - which was also his 21st birthday - as the highlight of his career.

But he is hoping to go one better with the Silkmen, even though they dropped to fourth in the League Two table with shock loss at Northampton.

He said: "It was a similar situation, with us being in and around the automatic places.

"But we finished fourth and got our day out at Wembley, which was a good way to go up but we just want to finish in the top three."
