The centre-back left Glanford Park for the Owls in March 11, on a loan deal which was then made permanent on a free transfer that summer.
He was a regular for the Owls last season, and scored five goals in 45 appearances before leaving the club by mutual consent on Monday afternoon.
Widespread media reports suggested he is close to sign for Doncaster Rovers, likely completing his move on Tuesday.
Should Jones complete a move to the Keepmoat Stadium as expected then he would come up against his former side on Saturday November 24, when the Iron make the short trip to Doncaster.
The return fixture at Glanford Park will take place on Saturday March 23.
