MacLean has been ruled out for up to six months and Owls boss Paul Sturrock will be eagerly searching for a replacement for his 20-goal striker.

The news is a crushing blow for the injury-jinxed Owls and the 22-year-old Scottish striker.

He enjoyed a loan spell with the Iron during the 2003/04 season, when the 'Loan Ranger' fired home 25 goals.
